Overview

Florida is one of the world’s major citrus-growing regions, and oranges are in season locally from fall through spring — the hot, humid summer is off-season for Florida citrus. Outside this window, oranges at PBC supermarkets are typically shipped in from elsewhere.

Note: oranges themselves aren’t a major source of vitamin D — fortified orange juice is (vitamin D is added during processing, not naturally present in the fruit).

Nutrition notes

High in vitamin C, which meaningfully improves absorption of plant-based iron — worth pairing with Spinach in a meal for anyone managing Iron-deficiency anemia risk.
